The resort describes its private island as the largest in the Maldives, and the villas have direct access to the sea and the surrounding reef. The resort has an aqua wellness centre, and Terra, high in the island's canopy, is built from bamboo.
Accommodation comes as overwater villas, beach villas and reef villas. The overwater villas have a private deck, an infinity pool, a dressing room with a glass floor over the lagoon and floor-to-ceiling windows, and a larger honeymoon villa adds living space for in-villa dining. The beach villas have a private pool, indoor and outdoor rain showers, a garden and a deep-soaking tub, a few steps from the shore. The reef villas have a sundeck, a private pool and direct lagoon access. Villas take two adults and two children under 12, and the overwater villas range from 283 to 1,113 square metres.
Dining is spread across the island with treetop tasting menus, Japanese izakaya cooking at Zuma, Lebanese hospitality at Em Sherif and wood-fired barbecue at The Ledge by the Michelin-star chef Dave Pynt. Terra serves seven-course menus in seven bamboo pods high in the canopy, hand-crafted and the only ones of their kind in the Maldives.
The Wellness Concierge, exclusive to Waldorf Astoria Maldives, plans treatments and fitness around each guest in a one-to-one consultation. The spa menu draws on earth, water, fire, metal and wood, from Himalayan stone rituals to Balinese massage and hydrotherapy, and programmes of two, five or seven days cover Ayurveda, detox, anti-stress, pain relief and beauty.
It suits couples after a quiet villa with its own pool, and guests who want a long dining list on an island of their own.
