# Mombo Camp

Okavango Delta, Chief's Island, Botswana

Mombo Camp is a nine-tent camp on Chief's Island in the heart of the Okavango Delta, Botswana, rebuilt as open-sided spaces and raised tented suites. It takes up to eighteen guests and has more than 45,000 hectares of private wilderness around it.

The camp stands in a thicket of giant mangosteen and fig trees, where the main Okavango River splits into its primary channels, with views across a floodplain. Chief's Island is the most wildlife-dense area of the Delta, and it draws herds of red lechwe, impala, giraffe, buffalo and elephant, and with them wild dogs, hyenas, lions and leopards that lie up in the jackalberry trees. The camp keeps the traditions of the legendary Mombo of the past, built in wood and canvas from natural materials sourced across the Delta region.

There are eight double tented suites and a family unit that sleeps four, made of two adjoining safari tents with their own en-suite bathrooms. Each suite has a plunge pool, an open-air lounge, an en-suite bathroom with an outdoor shower and panoramic windows for watching wildlife. The camp has a swimming pool and a wine cellar.

Meals are designed around conservation, with heritage ingredients and heirloom produce, and the baobab, whose powder is used as a natural superfood, is the chief among them. The fully inclusive rate covers accommodation, all meals, twice-daily camp activities, park fees, laundry and local drinks, apart from premium imported brands and champagne.

The Sanctuary is the camp's wellness space, with a lap pool, a meditation cocoon, a sauna and a remedy bar that uses African healing ingredients. Day and night game drives, boating and mokoro trips, seasonal and dependent on water levels, make up the days.

Guests are met at Maun airport and flown on a light aircraft to the camp. It suits travellers who come for predators, and families, since a family suite is available.
